SPECIAL INTEREST SEMINARS

Several years ago, F.A.S. introduced a variety of special training seminars, focused in-depth on individual components and ancillary aspects of defensive firearms use. The response to these mini-classes has been tremendous! Seminar emphasis is on skill building and repetition, that the student may gain an appreciable degree of proficiency in the specified skill. The special interest seminars review and refine skills taught in our weekend courses, and are offered to provide the chance to practice specific skills, without having to spend the time to go through an entire weekend class.

These one-day, 6-hour seminars are designed for students to practice what they already have been taught, but perhaps have not practiced for a while. They are NOT designed to be stand-alone training. If you have not met the pre-requisites listed for each class, please do not ask for a waiver of the pre-requisite.

All special interest seminars last six hours, running from noon to 6:00 p.m. at the FAS Tactical Training Range, Onalaska, WA (unless otherwise indicated), and cost $75.00. We pack a lot of material into a short period of time, so meal breaks will be very limited. We recommend you eat a big meal before coming, and pack a snack to carry you through to the end. Please read each individual offering for the subject matter covered, specific dates and the prerequisite(s) required.

Low Light Handgun - Sat., April 26, 2008
Point shooting, proper use of flashlights, use of night sights, use of lasers, low-light moving targets and shooting while moving in low light are the main topics covered in this special interest seminar. Bring 300 rounds of jacketed ammunition, Surefire-type tactical flashlight, clear eye protection, ear protection, belt holster and billed cap. Prerequisite: Defensive Handgun/F.A.S.-2 (or higher level course).

One Handed Skills with Handgun - Sun., April 27, 2008
Most shooters don't train enough with one-handed techniques, and so we devote this day solely to this type of training. Both strong- and weak-hand training focuses on accuracy, speed, single and multiple targets, moving targets and shooting while moving. Bring your handgun, 300 rounds of FMJ ammunition, eye and ear protection and a billed cap. Prerequisite: Defensive Handgun/F.A.S.-2 (or higher level course).

Handgun Accuracy - Sun., May 4, 2008
Unless you have mastered shooting a handgun without flinching, gaining skills in the other areas of defensive handgun use is very difficult. With this in mind, students are drilled and coached on how to shoot very accurately with the handgun. Not very sexy, but very necessary! Bring your handgun, 250 rounds of jacketed ammunition, belt holster and ear and eye protection and a billed cap. Prerequisite: Either Concealed Carry 101 or Fundamentals of Home Defense (or higher level course).

Speed Handgun - Sat., June 7, 2008
Speed comes from smoothness (and turning on the afterburners). This special interest seminar is the most action-packed, full of smoke-and-brass seminar we teach. At completion, the student should be able to do one second draws, double taps in a quarter of a second, and engage 3 targets from the holster in under 2 seconds. Not only pushing the envelope for speed, but also acceptable accuracy, with emphasis on A-zone hits for all shots fired. Bring handgun, a Kydex (such as Blade-Tech) or other outside the belt holster, and 500 rounds of FMJ ammunition, and at least 5 magazines, eye and ear protection and a billed cap. Prerequisite: Advanced Defensive Handgun/F.A.S.-4

Speed Carbine - Sun., June 22, 2008
Bring your .223 semi-auto carbine, and run it through its paces in this new seminar designed especially to improve your first shot accuracy under stress. Shooting drills will be predicated upon the rifle portion of Chuck Taylor’s 4-gun Combat Master’s Test, © ASAA. NOTE: There is no testing in this class, we will just work on the drills that one of the best rifle instructors in the country believes are germane to the topic. 300 rounds .223, at least three 30 round magazines or five 20 rounders, rifle sling, ear and eye protection and a billed cap. Prerequisite: Level 2: Tactical Rifle/F.A.S.-7 (or higher level course).

Defensive Handgunning Tune-Up - Sun., July 27, 2008
Handgun skills are perishable, and unless you have been training or practicing lately, you are going backwards. This seminar is designed as a 6-hour hard core practice session, working on accuracy, draw stroke, speed, reloading and other components of defensive handgunning. 250 rounds, (other equip.) Prerequisite: Defensive Handgun or FAS-2
