The Firearms Academy of Seattle, Inc. Tactical Training Range consists of many individual ranges and shooting areas, including mock houses, a dark house, covered ranges, a 360-degree bay, several field courses, a marksman's tower and more. Photo courtesy William L. Rogers.

The FAS range design groups the ranges together so an easy walk takes the shooter from one range to the next. Shooters arrive on a 1/2-mile gravel road, driving north. At the "T" intersection, a turn toward the arrow marked "B" takes the student to the classroom marked "3", while continuing toward the arrow marked "A" takes the shooter directly to the upper pistol ranges.

These ranges, surrounded by earthwork berms to contain the expended projectiles, are located against a high ridge. To the far left of the photo, marked as "1," is our 300 yard rifle range; "2" indicates our 265 yard rifle range; and "3" shows the classroom and student parking lot.

Behind the classroom, marked with a "4" is the tactical carbine range. "5" shows our 18 position shotgun and pistol range, complete with covered area and steel silhouette targets. Behind it, marked as "6," is our combat pistol run. "7" marks a small square range used for one-on-one shooting and moving drills. Nearby is the RV and tent camping area "8" and over seeing it all is "9," our three-level marksman's tower.

On the upper range, we have the low light range, a fully-enclosed low light simulator, allowing us to teach low light techniques to classes scheduled during day-time hours. It is marked as "10." Nearby is "11," the moving target range; "12" is the a falling steel target range; recent logging has changed "13" into an access road; "14" is the low light and simunitions house; "15" is the main training range, a 25-yard range with covered shooting positions, tables, benches and other amenities.

Up a slight hill is "16" the Doll House, a fully-bermed faux structure in which building search techniques and other tactical challenges are taught. Bay "17" is a small bay used to simulate building entry problems, and next to it is our 360-degree real-world training bay, marked as "18."

The FAS Tactical Training Range is a dedicated training facility, and is not open to the public for general shooting. It is leased by a number of law enforcement agencies who use it in training their patrol officers and special response teams, and, of course, is the location of most of the classes taught by The Firearms Academy of Seattle.
