Pre-registration strictly required. See the course description for dates and details.

HANDGUN SELECTION SEMINAR
This one-day seminar is offered as a follow-on class for students who have completed the Handgun Safety Seminar using a handgun provided by The Firearms Academy of Seattle, Inc., and now want to know what kind of gun they should buy for self defense. Other students come to classes equipped with seriously inadequate or very poorly fitting handguns, but don't know how to identify a more suitable model. See the course description to learn how this class offers solutions, plus check class dates and details.

FUNDAMENTALS OF HOME DEFENSE
This one-day class is specifically designed for the Handgun Safety Seminar graduate who keeps a handgun at home for self-defense, but does not necessarily carry a gun in public. Learn about safe storage of handguns, home security, bullet penetration in modern housing construction, children and guns, interacting with home intruders and interacting with police. On the range, practice use of cover shooting, strong hand only shooting, distances out to 10 yards, low light shooting and use of flashlight with handguns. See the course description for dates and details.

CONCEALED CARRY 101
Eight hours of training and information for the civilian who is preparing to carry a concealed handgun for protection. Building on information taught in the Handgun Safety Seminar (the seminar is a non-negotiable pre-requisite for participation), students explore self-defense and concealed carry handgun skills, holster selection and carry methods, drawing from concealment, concealed carry wardrobe options, reloading and malfunction clearing, ammunition selection, and a variety of marksmanship skill building drills.See the course description for dates and details.

DEFENSIVE HANDGUN
Two days of range instruction teach the techniques of defensive handgunning covering the basics of grip, stance, sight picture and trigger squeeze, continuing into draw stroke, reloads and malfunction clearing, low light shooting, point shooting skills, use of cover techniques, shooting at moving targets and shooting while moving. Classroom discussion covers gun safety, laws concerning use of deadly force, along with other use of deadly force concerns. See the course description for dates and details.

TACTICAL HANDGUN
Building on the skills learned in Defensive Handgun, Tactical Handgun exposes the student to life-saving tactical principles such as 360-degree target engagement, multiple targets, one-handed skills both in daylight and low light, additional exercises feature moving targets and shooting while moving. Also included in this two-day course are the subjects of building search principles both in daylight and low light conditions and compromised shooting skills. See the course description for dates and details.

ADVANCED DEFENSIVE HANDGUN
Mastery of the defensive handgun is the goal for this two-day course, where the students drill on the skills necessary to achieve excellence, along with receiving coaching in order to attain the greatest skill development possible. When facing a lethal threat, the confidence that one can perform the actions necessary to save one’s life or the lives of loved ones is immeasurably important, because criminals seek prey that they perceive as weak and unable to resist. Advanced-level training of this nature goes far toward eliminating any questions about your capabilities with a handgun. See the course description for dates and details.

ADVANCED TACTICAL HANDGUN
In this class, we invest an entire weekend to force-on-force training. Class also includes live-fire scenarios that are virtually impossible to run on any range other than the FAS Tactical Training Range. The first day of training centers around live-fire exercises, while the second day addresses force-on-force training using Code Eagle or Airsoft non-lethal training weapons (provided). See the course description for dates and details.

WEEKLONG HANDGUN COURSE
Offered for students who want to complete our Defensive Handgun, Tactical Handgun and Advanced Defensive Handgun courses all in one convenient offering, this week long course covers the material from all three courses, along with offering students the opportunity to complete the Handgun Master test. See the course description for dates and details.

INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT: HANDGUN
For over 20 years, F.A.S. Director Marty Hayes has been teaching basic and advanced handgun skills, both to private armed citizens, law enforcement and military personnel. Beginning in 2008, Mr. Hayes has decided to start sharing the knowledge developed while teaching over 10,000 people how to shoot (or how to shoot better), in hopes of sharing what he has learned (and what has made him one of the premier instructors in the nation) with the next generation of instructors.

HANDGUN TRAINING FOR WOMEN ONLY
Drawing on years of practical and teaching experience, The Firearms Academy of Seattle, Inc. is pleased to offer handgun programs designed just for women. Attuned to the concerns of women, we have developed a safe, comfortable environment in which to pass along self-defense handgun skills to women who are concerned about their safety and want to study armed self-defense. See our women's programs for dates and details of our various women's only programs.

DEFENSIVE SHOTGUN
Many myths surround the combat shotgun. This eight hour course will dispel these myths, replacing them with the correct knowledge and skills necessary to use the shotgun for self-defense or law enforcement duty.See the course description for dates and details.

LEVEL 1 RIFLE
A one-day training course covering a broad range of topics dealing with general rifle or carbine use. Designed for the student who has little or no experience shooting rifles or carbines, class starts at the beginning with basic rifle marksmanship principles, sighting in and establishing a “zero” for your rifle, plus rifle maintenance and cleaning, and moves on to different shooting positions and various distances. See the course description for dates and details.

LEVEL 2: TACTICAL RIFLE
Level Two Rifle is geared for the patrol officer or armed citizen wanting to increase proficiency with the semi-auto rifle/carbine. Instruction includes use of cover, search techniques, multiple targets, rapid fire, long range shooting (out to 200 yards), transition to pistol, malfunction clearing, speed reloading, moving and shooting and shooting on moving targets, along with use of the rifle in low-light environments. See the course description for dates and details.

LEVEL 3: CLOSE QUARTERS CARBINE
Our third level of rifle/carbine training, offered new for 2007, centers on using the .223 semi-auto carbine in close-range encounters, from 3 to 25 yards. Subject matter includes movement, moving targets, 360-degree awareness and target engagement, along with multiple targets, low light shooting, transition to handgun and hostage rescue concerns. Use of cover and stress exercises are also included. See the course description for dates and details.

WEEKLONG RIFLE
For students who want to compress the material we teach in our Level 1, 2 and 3 rifle classes (see above) into one convenient week-long class, we are offering a 5-day program to meet that goal. Learn about shooting your rifle from the first steps of how to shoot accurately, through sight in, then on to tactical concerns when using the rifle from muzzle contact distances out to 200 yards. See the course description for dates and details.

Level 1: PRECISION RIFLE
2-day class geared for the patrol officer or experienced shooter. Exercises include rifle marksmanship principles, field positions including prone, sitting, kneeling and standing (with or without sling), use of cover/camouflage exercises, engaging moving targets and use of the FAS Marksman's tower for tactical exercises. See the course description for dates and details.

HANDGUN RETENTION SEMINAR
Do you know how to defend your handgun against a large, aggressive attacker or what to do if a street thug sticks a gun in your face during an assault and threatens to blow your head off? The answers are the basis of this one-day seminar. See the course description for dates and details.

ADVANCED HANDGUN RETENTION SEMINAR
This one-day seminar picks up where the basic Handgun Retention Seminar left off, adding skills to answer concerns about retaining rifles or shotguns, performing retention skills with impaired vision, fending off a gun grab by multiple assailants and much more. See the course description for dates and details.

PERSUADER/PEPPER SPRAY SEMINAR
Both the Kubotan/Persuader type of self-defense tool (mini-baton) and aerosol pepper sprays (Oleoresin Capsicum) have become very popular as intermediate (non-lethal) defense tools. However, without the proper training, the person employing either of these tools dramatically decreases their odds of mounting a successful defense. Learn where aerosol defenses work best, participate or observe in first-hand experience with pepper spray. The day's training is completed with training in use of the keychain mini-baton, most valued because it can be carried openly almost anywhere, and thus is immediately available without any time lost. Students learn and practice jabs and strikes on padded bags and learn the Persuader's use to escape grabs from the front and from behind. Course fee includes a free Persuader mini-baton.

SPECIAL INTEREST SEMINARS
Several years ago, F.A.S. introduced a variety of special training seminars, focused in-depth on individual components and ancillary aspects of defensive firearms use. The programs run from 12 noon to 6 p.m., and cost $75. The special interest seminars review and refine skills taught in our weekend courses, and are offered to provide the chance to practice specific skills the student learned in the prereqisite F.A.S. class, without spending an entire weekend.
